I cut my hair, so I re-did my icon. short, fat, black dyke in glasses and bunnyslippers, cartoon style

I also took the opportunity to replace the cross in the background of this icon with a flaming chalice.

1) If you buy a dated stamp at the Automated Postal Center, you have to put it in the postal stream the same day, or the USPS gets annoyed.

2) Scotch tape is temperature sensitive, so you shouldn't use it to seal packages.

3) If you wrap your package in wrapping paper, the Post Office wants to put all sorts of unattractive stickers on it. Next year's plan is to wrap things properly, i.e. with minimal amounts of scotch tape) in wrapping paper, and then wrap that with brown paper sealed with strapping or packing tape.

4) Writing AIR MAIL/PAR AVION is as good as a sticker, even if the stickers are more attractive.

I need to update my icon 2 ways. The regular default needs the cross replaced with a flaming chalice, I think. And I want a yule log in the tv for the Christmas season.

10. Tell me about your default icon. and 10. Pick 10 random icons from your userpics and tell me about them.

cartoon black woman w/ double venus t-shirt, dreds, bunny slippers, and a TV Default icon
You know how, people in the mid-90s were very, very, very excited about the fact that, on the internet, nobody knows you're a dog, and that means the Internet will be a better place, kumbaya? It turns out that what they meant was, "On the Internet, everyone's an able-bodied white American straight cisdude until proven otherwise, which gives me license to be a sexist, racist douche all the time." So, I started making my default icons women of color. Finally, I found a cartoon iconmaker I liked and retired the old Jill Scott one, because I don't look like Jill Scott, but I also do not want my picture taken. Like, ever. I liked this icon maker because I was able to make a somewhat stocky icon (it could be fatter to be more accurate), and I could make it NOT SMILE, and adjust the size of the boobs (which you can't see anymore with the double-venus, but they're big. And they had multiple shades of brown for the skin! The only thing discomfiting is that all of the free backgrounds from that time were terrible, and this outdoor scene was probably the least terrible, but there's a cross in the background. I may have to cover that up in the GIMP one of these days.

Does anyone know where I can get the happy person base for the AO3 icon? Ideally, someone has the PSD or gimp image file for it...

There are a lot of great prompts, so come take a gander.

Two fills so far:

1) June/Neal in Vegas, done as an icon

2) Dressed for Success for Neal knew and desired June before his life of crime.

So, on zazzle, I can make a navy long sleeved shirt with a white doublevenus on the front. (Sadly, they do not offer any men's v necks, and all of the women's shirts would be very tight.)

Points to ponder for looking like my icon. I have duck slippers, but I don't currently have bunny slippers. Will people notice if I substitute duck for bunnies?

Remote control, y/n/my XO-1 (the little green laptop that looks like a toy) is an adequate substitute?

Also, do I dress like my icon on the first day of the con, when people who haven't seen me before might be looking for me, or on the second day, which will have higher traffic and more people to get the joke?

Also, also, someone should suggest a panel I would really like to mod. I think the issue I'm having is that, of the fandoms I would like to talk about, only in one is my primary pairing a slash pairing, and there's nothing to say about Shawn/Gus except MFEO. The end. (Shawn/Lassiter shippers, I'm sorry, but you are wrong.) Well, also, in Castle, there's Ryan/Esposito, what is the heterosexual reading of this text?

Yeah, I'm way over that bit about how, on the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog. My icon shows that I'm a fat black woman with glasses and natural hair who likes TV.

It doesn't show you that I'm a lesbian, and I want to fix that. I think the easiest thing is for me to add something to the TV. (My GIMP skills do not extend to manipulating the t-shirt.) What this means, of course, is that it is poll time!

ETA: poll closed because [personal profile] mpoetess had the photoshop sklls to modify the t-shirt with a double Venus. Thanks, bb.

Some story recommendations for you, Dear Readers: Two requests, Dear Readers: One, where are people posting Trek icons? I've seen bunches, and even been given one, but I haven't come across The One that will be my Trek:AOS icon yet. Two, people should get cracking on Spock/Uhura/McCoy stories. That threesome works for me ever so much better than Spock/Uhura/Kirk, because of the way that Uhura doesn't really like Kirk. (I imagine that hilarity might ensue because McCoy is sleeping with Spock and Uhura, but has also been Kirk's backup date a lot, and when Kirk finds out that McCoy has managed to score with Spock and Uhura, he jumps up and down flapping his arms about how awesome he is and everyone should want to sleep with him and WHAT THE FUCK, BONES, why won't you get me in on that action? And Leonard is like, "The reason they don't want to sleep with you is, in no small part, because you say things like, 'Get in on that action', when referring to having sex with other sapient beings.")

And, lastly, some thoughts on AOS!Spock vs. TOS!Spock (aka Spock Prime). (AOS stands for Alternate Original Series) spoilers, okay )

Icons Here! ) The sheep base was from [personal profile] helens78. I modified a Dreamwidth base by [personal profile] ct to make a Dreamcult base for use in the GIMP. For future reference, the CULT in the base is written in Enter Sansman. ream is written in Futura Medium, and the WIDTH in a regular Dreamwidth logo is Gill Sans Bold. The d is custom, not part of a font.

Comment and credit, please, but, except for my cult sheep, the rest are shareable.

Not crossposted to LJ, for obvious reasons. Not uploaded to the wiki either.

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Judith Light in a yellow dress, smoking: theatre critic This is one I made, from a publicity shot from Judith Light as Hedda Gabler at The Shakespeare Theatre Company. It was the first time I'd ever seen the play and she was amazing. I've seen it a couple of times since, but never as well done. I made the icon because I wanted a few --- critic icons to use when I posted reviews.
Hermione in the infirmary: 'Oh no!' she said flatly. This one was a party souvenir. You kind of had to be there. (Weirdly enough, it was an actual physical party. Waves at Brak and gblvr.)
Anita Van Buren: SO SMARTI went to school the summer of 2007. I needed an icon to talk about it with. This fit.
B&W Jill Scott closeup: zviThis is one I made one time when I was temping at a place with photoshop and an internet connection and not much to do during the day. I made a bunch of icons I didn't really use. Several years later, I wanted an icon that looked a bit like me, that was clearly of a black woman. Also, my LJ username was [livejournal.com profile] witchqueen, but I was starting to transition to a fannish pseud fo zvi. So I brought this icon out of storage and I used it up until about a month ago, when Denise asked for a picture for the staff page. I don't do pictures, but I also thought it would be kind of weird to have Jill Scott as my staff ID, so I dusted off the Weemee icon that I only had for AIM. The Weemee looks more like me than Jill Scott, so I rotated it in.
Down Pencil: SOSAYWEALL (WGA 07)I supported the WGA writers' strike, but I thought 'Pencils Down' was a terrible slogan for an icon. Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] crazyvictoria made alternate slogans. I was watching BSG at the time, and I thought it was cool.
