(b) The image placeholder option is more useful now than when it was originally introduced. Livejournal introduced the option to only use the placeholder at certain size thresholds. Sadly, this is often useless as people write bad HTML and don't specify the height and width attributes, so Dreamwidth has upped the ante by allowing you to specify how images of unknown size are treated. (How do you write good HTML?
