Do I need to write a Dear Writer letter for Satedan Grabass? I, um, can't think of anything particular to John and Ronon to say about the whole situation, except that if you go on and on about John's amazing beauty I will laugh at you, but, otherwise, just check the tags.

Star Trek: AOS

Deviated Sequitur, Gen, Funny, funny story. JTK and the rest of the crew go on a mission to figure out why JTK is the most beat-up captain in the fleet.

Earth-style Romantic Gestures Gaila/Uhura. Oh my goodness, completely adorable. They are trying so hard to understand each other and succeeding. It really gives you hope for the future of interspecies romance. :)

Passing It Forward Gaila/OFC. Gaila's older now, but she's still got juice. Funny.

Stargate Atlantis

Long Way Round Sam/Teyla. Girls interrupted. Wistful and hopeful at the same time.

The Truth Will Get You Laid Cadman/Keller. Humor. Courtship by the need for medical intervention.

Other fandoms

A Place to Stand. Vorkosigan saga. Part of the A Deeper Season universe. Miles struggles to figure out what he's doing as the Emperor's Consort. Naturally, this involves power tools, a feud with a cat, and historical revisionism. 20+K words.

Traceroute of a Retrieval Specialist Leverage. Alec/Eliot. A little about what Eliot did in Pakistan. A little about what Eliot's doing now in Boston. This is grittier than the series itself, but still very much in character. Just be ready for the tonal shift.

Team Q Harry Potter. Post-Series. Dean and Seamus come up with the best idea for a comic book in the history of everything ever.

There's a microfic meme that's been going around High School Musical. (Shut up. If you had seen the baseball game in HSM2, you, too, would be a Chad/Ryan slasher.) I did a Stargate Atlantis version, Ten Tales in Ten Lines.

My 100th fanfic story (and this number is slightly apocryphal, as I went ahead and posted some comment fic to the Archive of Our Own that I never would have posted to my own website) is Rescue and Restore. This story is based on Razia's Shadow, which is a musical about a creation, an expulsion, and a restoration. You can listen to it for free, streaming at Forgive Durden's purevolume page.

I think that, to celebrate, I would like a new fanfiction icon. Or, at least, I would like to make myself a [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout icon that is a little less…ugly than most of those currently proffered. Does anyone have a favorite comm for patterned bases?

(P.S. In case you missed it, I wrote some Heroes fic. It's a first-time Ando/Hiro duology about timelooping: Directions in Time.

Pairing: Gen, Teyla-centric

[livejournal.com profile] sga_mst has been created as a community which MSTs fanfiction. I think this is extremely difficult to do well, and the fact that the MST has to be done in the voices of the SGA characters makes it even more likely that no one on that community will do it well.

However, what makes me think this community is wrong like a wrong thing is that the stories are being re-posted (in whole or in part) with neither the author names nor the story titles attached.

Reposting without permission has been a no-no as long as I have been in fandom, and reposting without crediting the original author is generally seen as being the crime right under plagiarism. [livejournal.com profile] blade_girl is "discussing" the comm in her LJ. [livejournal.com profile] history_gurl and [livejournal.com profile] crazymadi are also mods, and you may want to let them know what you think.

Summary: Magic is a touchstone in John Sheppard's life.

For the first one, I lost the prompt card, but it was something about SG1 exploring the base with the quantum mirror, and despite no one touching anything, winding up at Eclecticon. How do they deal with being fictional characters and how do they get home.

Story 1 )
The second story prompt was
  1. Character A tells Character B that, "The mission is the most important thing in my life."
  2. Character B receives a ransom note saying, "Stop the mission or Character B bites it.
  3. Character B reacts to this by ???

I can't write as much as I'd like about this issue because a) I'm writing on a laptop which kills my wrists dead and b) it's midnight and I have to go to work tomorrow.

Some of the people with interesting things to say on this issue, although I don't agree with everything they say are:links to discussion )Okay, so here's the part that, to me, and as someone who's been an LJ community maintainer (not necessarily a good one, but I did keep one more or less going for over a year) that people are not getting.

Public discussion, even on a community, means in public, it doesn't mean structured by the people, on any fucking topic of the people, and for the people of the whole goddamn world. Unless king community dictator chooses a constitutional monarchy. Like Britain. Or [livejournal.com profile] bookgasm. [livejournal.com profile] thecuttingboard is [livejournal.com profile] carolyn_claire's world, and you're just living in it. Or you know, not. Up to you. If you don't like the playground, you don't have to play. Take your ball and go home.some more about this )

This community has driven home for me that we need a word for discussion of individual fanfiction stories which specifically implies that we are not talking to the fucking author. Because when anyone says, "Let's discuss stories!" that gets summarized to critique or literary criticism which gets abbreviated as crit which is then unpacked as constructive criticism. And you! Hey, you, Madame Artiste, over there! Ma'amselle Auteur, you, in the corner! I ain't talking to you. what I mean by that is )

This entry is posted publically, should anyone like to refer to it. I may or may not be taking it back to flock like the rest of the journal. If so, it will remain public on my journalfen account.
