Dear Yulie
Wednesday, 23 November 2011 11:01You might want to go back and read through previous dear challenge writer letters, but my general likes/dislikes in a nutshell:
- Likes
- Worldbuilding and character backstory
- Casefic/could be an episode fic
- stories where the protagonists fit into a broader community, especially but not limited to the other established characters
- Happy/hopeful endings
- Relationship stories where the characters talk to each other about their problems and work together to fix them
- MPREG, AUs*, Crack**, kidfic, pregnancyfic
- Sex scenes that advance the plot or reveal something about character
- safer sex, cunnilingus, vaginal fisting, rimming, fingering, sex toys, and pegging
- Disklikes
- poetry, vignettes, or character musings, e.g. plotless interior monologues
- bad spelling and grammar
- pining
- relationship problems which could be resolved simply by one character telling another about the issue
- angst
- *non-magical/sf AUs for sources with magic/sf
- **crack fic where characters are made into inanimate objects or where inanimate objects are the POV character
- gunplay, breathplay, choking in a sexual context, playing with semen
- extended descriptions of violence, sexual or otherwise
And now, for a little bit more about my requests:
- 2 Broke Girls - Max Black/Caroline Channing
Ideally, this story will be femslash.
I want futurefic. It would be great if you could write something about the cupcake business. It can be successful or not. Maybe Caroline's dad gets acquitted and they never actually do it. Maybe Max moves on to wedding cakes.
( More about why I like this show )
- NCIS: Los Angeles - Sam Hanna/G Callen
The first season of the show was all about Sam and G's big gay love, and I'd really like a story that revisits that vibe. If you don't write slash, then something about them as friends and partners, where they're taking care of each other, would work too.
I'd love any Sam backstory you could work in. Other characters I'd like it if you included were Kenzi, Hetty, Eric, Nell, Dom, or Mo. Please don't include Deeks or Nate.
( More thoughts on the show )
- Razia's Shadow - Nidria (Razia's Shadow)
This source material is really beautiful in some ways, but the women in it function to advance men's stories, and it symbolizes evil with darkness and good with light.
If you could write a story about women being awesome (doesn't have to be Nidria, a story about Anhura, or one of the gender unspecified characters, like Toba the Tura, as female, would be fine, too) you would make my Yuletide. I thought maybe something about rebuilding and reconstruction, or something about the woman's own motives and actions and desires, as an independent operator.
And if you could just avoid the dark/light symbolism, please.
( Info about listening to, watching, or reading Razia's Shadow )
- Whitney (TV) - Whitney (Whitney)/Alex Green
It's really, really weird that I like this show (I don't like traditional sitcoms, I'm not a big fan of monogamous heterosexual relationship shows), but I do. I find Whitney and Alex to be goofy, appealing characters, and I just want to read any sort of story about them. Maybe explain how they actually got together, or do a Rashomon style story about something completely trivial.
I think I like them because I get the feeling that they love each other, without their demonstrations of love being wrapped up in a lot of romantic comedy style weirdness. Admittedly, their demonstrations fall into a lot of weird sitcom-my antagonism, but I can somehow deal with that better.
I'm happy for the story to include Neal. If you include Lily or Roxanne, could you make them a little less sitcom-y than they are on the show. Please, no Mark.
